In 2020, Kenya was by far the highest producer of tea in Africa. The country's production reached roughly 570 thousand metric tons, which corresponded to nearly 70 percent of the continent's tea output. Uganda, Tanzania, and Malawi were the next largest tea producers in Africa. Together, they produced around 160 thousand metric tons.
The Mombasa Tea Auction, managed by the East African Tea Trade Association (EATTA), is one of the largest tea auctions globally². It provides a transparent and efficient platform for trading tea, ensuring fair prices and quality standards².
